Types of softgel capsules

• Oil-based softgels – They consist of an oil-based liquid inside the gelatin-made outer shell. For water-sensitive items like Vitamin E, and fish oil, these oil-based capsules are employed. Also, the items that need to be protected from the oxidation process are packaged in oil-based softgel capsules. One such example is omega-3 fatty acids.

• Lyophilized softgels – As the name suggests, the lyophilized softgel capsules contain a powder inside a gelatin sheath. The powder is freeze-dried, then the water is removed from it. This is done to enhance the capsule’s stability. Mostly, moisture-sensitive items require these types of capsules.
